We amassed a large amount of candy. And our disguises I must say were among the most unique on the street. You see I am 28 and my sister is...well, she is a girl and your not supposed to talk about their age. Lets just say she is a lot older than I am. She was born in the time before 8 track cassetes were affordable.

Anyway, our disguises were most convincing because we looked like small children in these outfits. I was dressed in my midget clown costume, and she was dressed as the midget witch. Yes I had to shave my goatee for the ocassion, but it was all worth it for the candy. I swear that photo is not back from the 80's. No, my sister did not force me to watch Devo music videos, and yes, she let me play with her Nintendo for once.

Happy Halloween and as mom always said: "Check your candy, someone could have used a syringe to put the poison in."

Proposition B

Recently my wife and I adopted a five year old Shih Tzu named Bea from the Southwest Missouri Humane Society. Adopting this dog from a shelter meant not purchasing a dog raised in a puppy mill. I never have been a fan of puppy mills. Come to think about it, are there actually "fans of puppy mills" besides the owners of said mills and those who buy directly from them? I don't think that anyone is a fan of the abuse that occurs in these animal breeding facilities. I don't even think that most puppy mill owners start their businesses with the intent of harming animals.

As I said above, I have never been a fan of puppy mills. But it seems that you become more sensitive to the abuses you hear about once you have acquired your canine companion. I am aware that tomorrow is the date of the big election. While it is a very important election, the Proposition B bill stands out as somewhat controversial. This proposition is said to help the poor, innocent, defenseless dogs in these facilities. But several groups say that this is just not the case.

I have read the language of the bill and I did not see anything that stands out as pure evil. Could it be that those opposed to the bill are being backed by puppy mills and the pet stores who buy from them? I am not sure about that.

I know that the bill says that a dog can only be allowed to breed twice within an 18 month period. This seems like quite a long stretch, but I am no expert on dog breeding cycles and so I must relenquish that opinion to the professionals.

When it comes to this proposition, no matter the agenda of those who support or oppose this bill, I know my agenda. I am not a member of PETA, or any other animal rights organization, but I do support animals. While I think that it is impossible to solve all the worlds problems with government regulations, I do think that this bill is needed. These breeders have been given a chance to do the right thing. There was not the strict regulation in place that this bill calls for. It is time to show support to these animals, who need love, food, water, and shelter no matter where they are kept.
